A special presentation of CBC archival footage from the Kluane region will also be screened

This summer, CBC and Parks Canada have partnered to provide free screenings of Indigenous stories in sites and parks across the country.

Rooted: A CBC & Parks Canada Indigenous Screening Series, is a series of free events for families and park enthusiasts to engage with and celebrate First Nations, Inuit and Métis stories in Parks Canada locations this summer.

On Wednesday, July 22nd, a compilation of four CBC Creator Network documentaries focusing on Indigenous peoples’ relationship to the land will be screened at the Kluane National Park and Reserve Visitor Centre in Haines Junction. The screening begins at 7 p.m.

Through these four films, you'll follow Lexie Obey from Piapot First Nations as she strives to bring the values of respect and reciprocity to her trail-running discipline and learn how Tsimshian farmer Jacob Beaton is growing resilient varieties of Indigenous potatoes. You'll also see how Northern Tutchone artist Carissa Waugh is advocating for salmon conservation through her beadwork and how W̱SÁNEĆ plant experts Ashley Cooper and Tiffany Joseph are using knowledge passed down from their ancestors to care for camas plants.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to take a look back in time through CBC archival footage from the Kluane region that will be screened alongside the documentaries.

Visit cbc.ca/experiences for a complete listing of screening events across the country.
