Labor wants answers on rogue AI as cyber threat grows to $37b
The government is seeking answers from US technology giants over the scope of rogue behaviour by artificial intelligence agents amid reports OpenAI and Anthropic are investigating tens of thousands of unauthorised actions by frontier models globally, and as experts warn AI-driven cyberattacks could cost Australian business up to $37 billion by 2030.
OpenAI, Anthropic and security researchers have been investigating incidents including bypassing guardrails, escaping “sandboxes” and hijacking websites, US news site Axios reported on Sunday, after revelations last week that a rogue AI agent infiltrated a Medicare statistics website to obtain non-public data.
