Metro Vancouver bus drivers reach tentative contract deal: company

Coast Mountain Bus Company says it has reached a tentative contract agreement with Metro Vancouver transit operators after months of bargaining.

In a statement, the company said it reached the deal with Unifor Locals 111 and 2200, which represent bus drivers, SeaBus workers, and other skilled tradespeople, with the help of a mediator.

Details of the tentative agreement have not been released, and the company says it will now seek ratification before it becomes final.

Coast Mountain says the deal "provides additional detail around recovery and running time" and is consistent with framework established with other public sector unions.

Negotiations had begun in February but stalled, with workers taking job action such as a ban on wearing uniforms and refusing requests to give up break times when bus routes are running behind schedule.

Union members voted to authorize strike action in May with more than 99 per cent support, but both sides agreed to return to the table on Saturday.
