MIRAVA raises €4.2 million to build a new category in recreational boating (Sponsored)
MIRAVA, a smart recreational boat startup, has raised €4.2 million ($5 million) in angel funding to move from three years of product development into small-batch production and customer deliveries.
The company has spent the past three years developing its first product, combining intelligent navigation, a modular design and software-driven experiences into a single recreational boat platform.
MIRAVA will introduce the product to the European market at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2026, followed by boot Düsseldorf in January 2027.
A traditional market ready for a different approach
Recreational boating remains a highly established industry, with many products still organised around traditional use cases such as cruising, fishing, water-sports and entertaining.
At the same time, consumers in other industries have become accustomed to products that are connected, adaptable and increasingly assisted by software and intelligent technologies.
MIRAVA believes recreational boating can undergo a similar transition.
Instead of developing another boat around a single activity, the company has spent three years developing a platform designed to adapt to different ways of spending time on the water.
The idea is straightforward: the boat should adapt to the user, rather than the user having to adapt to the boat.
Building the product around real-world use
MIRAVA’s first smart boat is designed for multiple experiences, including cruising, family leisure, socialising, swimming, fishing and water-sports.
Its modular stern is central to this approach. The aft section can be transformed to create different configurations depending on the activity, while the detachable section can operate independently as a tender or water platform.
This means that the same boat can move between different uses without being defined by a single purpose.
For MIRAVA, this is an opportunity to develop a broader category of intelligent recreational boats – products that combine the flexibility of a multi-purpose platform with the convenience of intelligent technology.
Technology designed around the user.
The company is also taking a different approach to marine technology.
Rather than treating autonomous systems as features that exist primarily to demonstrate technical capability, MIRAVA is applying them to practical boating scenarios.
Its intelligent navigation system includes autonomous docking, autonomous departure and arrival, Dynamic Positioning and intelligent following.
A smart wearable allows users to interact with the boat and can enable it to follow a swimmer, paddle-boarder or diver at a safe distance.
The objective is to reduce some of the complexity involved in operating a boat, allowing users to spend more time on the experience itself.
In this sense, MIRAVA sees intelligent technology as an enabler of freedom rather than an end in itself.
From product development to commercialisation.
The $5M angel investment marks an important stage in MIRAVA’s development.
After three years focused on product development and refinement, the company is now preparing to move towards small-batch production and customer deliveries.
The funding will be used to continue developing the product and its intelligent systems while supporting the next stage of manufacturing and delivery.
This transition also gives MIRAVA an opportunity to test its new approach with customers and the wider European boating market.
The company will use its appearance at Cannes and Düsseldorf to introduce the product to potential customers, partners and the wider marine industry.
A new category, rather than another boat
MIRAVA’s ambition is not simply to add autonomous technology or electric propulsion to an existing boat category.
The company is attempting to combine several trends – intelligent navigation, modular product design, connected interaction and multi-purpose leisure – into a single ownership experience.
The result is a smart boat that can support different activities without being defined by any one of them.
For a market where product categories have traditionally been shaped around specific activities, MIRAVA believes this creates room for a different proposition: a recreational boat designed around how people want to use it, rather than what the boat was originally built to do.
With its initial three years of development complete and new funding secured, MIRAVA is now entering the next phase of its journey – moving from product development towards production, customer delivery and international market introduction.
Its European debut at Cannes will be the first major step in bringing that proposition to market.
