Montreal weather: Canada’s about to turn 159. The temperature’s turning 30
With a heat warning on the horizon, Tuesday’s forecast calls for a high of 30 C with a humidex of 34 and, as has been the pattern for weeks, the risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon.
Heat warnings have been issued for the Montreal area and most of southern Quebec starting Wednesday and continuing to Sunday. The daytime highs are expected to be up to 33 C with overnight lows between 20 and 23 Celsius.
The humidex will hover between 40 and 44.
The weather warning, launching Canada Day, is the season’s first true heat wave. People should check on their neighbours, especially vulnerable people, drink lots of water and limit direct exposure to the sun and heat, Environment and Climate Change Canada says.
Heat waves are declared when there are two or more consecutive days of high heat with little to no relief overnight.
