Parties from India, China, Bangladesh and UK send greetings for NC convention

KATHMANDU, Oct 4: Political parties and international organizations from India, China, Bangladesh and other countries have sent congratulatory messages to Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa on the party’s 15th General Convention.

Bharatiya Janata Party President Nitin Nabin congratulated Thapa and wished the convention success. Expressing solidarity with Nepalis affected by recent floods, Nabin said India stood with Nepal and would continue supporting relief and reconstruction efforts. He also expressed a commitment to further strengthening ties between the BJP and the Nepali Congress.

The International Department of the Communist Party of China also extended its best wishes for the successful convention. It expressed confidence that the Nepali Congress would continue contributing to Nepal’s development and improving people’s living standards, while pledging to maintain cooperation and exchanges between the two parties.

Indian National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also sent his greetings. Saying he could not attend due to prior commitments, Kharge said he had designated Vivek Tankha as his representative. Tankha will represent the Indian National Congress at the inaugural session.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party President and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman also wished the Nepali Congress success at its convention. He expressed a desire to further strengthen the longstanding friendly ties between Bangladesh and the Nepali Congress and extended his best wishes to the party’s new leadership.

Chung Eui-yong, president of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), also sent greetings to the Nepali Congress. Expressing condolences to those killed and affected by the recent floods, he stressed the need for regional and international cooperation to address climate change and natural disasters.

Describing the Nepali Congress as a founding member and longstanding key partner of ICAPP, Chung invited the party leadership to attend the 13th ICAPP General Assembly, scheduled to be held in Seoul, South Korea, in November.

The UK’s Labour Party and several other political parties also sent congratulatory messages.

Representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Nepal, including the US, UK, Swiss and Chinese embassies and the European Union, were also present at the inaugural ceremony of the convention.
