Pilot dies in training flight crash near Mission

Police say the 22-year-old male pilot was the sole occupant of the plane at the time of the crash

Mission RCMP say a 22-year-old male pilot died in a small plane crash on Wednesday night.

The man was the sole occupant of the aircraft and was conducting a training flight at the time of the crash, according to police.

B.C. Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) said it received a call at 10:30 p.m. PT Wednesday about an airplane in the 13700-block of Stave Lake Road in Hatzic near Mission.

The B.C. Coroners Service and Canada's Transportation Safety Board have both opened investigations into the fatal crash.

It marks the third deployment to B.C. for TSB investigators this month due to aviation incidents.

Last week, a plane made an emergency landing on a highway in Prince George, B.C., striking several vehicles and killing one person.

Victim of Prince George plane crash identified as devoted coach, volunteer and mother of 2

1 man found dead after mid-air plane collision in Chilliwack, B.C.

A mid-air collision between two planes over Chilliwack, B.C., that resulted in a fatality also prompted a deployment to the Fraser Valley city earlier this month.

The TSB's sole aim is advancing transportation safety and it does not assign fault.
