Police investigating after man dies in single-vehicle crash in southwest Calgary

Man's death marks 22nd traffic fatality so far this year

Calgary police are investigating a single-vehicle crash on Friday night that left a man in his 20s dead.

They said in a news release Saturday the man was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am south on Tsuut'ina Trail S.W. approaching 90th Avenue S.W., when his car went off the road and hit the concrete base of a sign pole around 8 p.m. Friday.

He was removed from the car by first responders and taken to hospital, where he later died.

Police say he was the only person in the car.

Calgary police say this was the 18th fatal collision in the city so far this year, with a total of 22 deaths resulting from those collisions.

The crash is under investigation. Police say speed and impairment are not believed to have been factors in the crash.
