Police say West Lorne shelter-in

Police say West Lorne shelter-in-place ended following arrest

Order was issued late Sunday morning for the area of Walker and Mary streets

Police say there is no threat to public safety in West Lorne, Ont., after they asked the community to shelter in place Sunday afternoon, following reports of a disturbance involving a potentially armed person.

In an update at 4 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said an individual was taken into custody without incident, and officers would be remaining on scene to continue their investigation.

The shelter-in-place order was issued shortly before noon, and applied to anyone in the area of Walker and Mary streets.

"We recognize the significant emotional impact that receiving a shelter-in-place can cause," police said in a media release.

"The OPP is taking every precaution necessary to resolve this situation and maintain public safety."

People were asked to avoid travelling to that area of West Lorne until further notice, OPP said.

An increased police presence can be expected in the area while officers respond and investigate, they added.
