Exposure related to confirmed measles case, health agency says

Peel Public Health is warning the public of potential measles exposure at Toronto's Pearson airport and on two flights on July 7.

Those at higher risk, such as due to a weakened immune system and pregnancy, or who have an infant under one, should contact their local public health unit about the possibility of preventative treatment, the alert said.

The alert also said anyone experiencing symptoms should contact their health care provider or public health "as soon as possible."

Measles is a highly contagious disease that can spread easily to those who are not vaccinated against it or who have not previously had measles. Symptoms begin seven to 21 days after infection, the public healthy agency said.

Symptoms can include high fever, cough, runny nose, red, watery eyes, sensitivity to light, and a red rash that starts on the face and spreads down the body.
