Environment Canada warns of 'very dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation'
Environment Canada is warning people in the Kenora, Sherwood Lake, Laclu, Keewatin, Redditt, Lajeunesse Bridge and Longbow Lake areas of a possible tornado.
The weather agency issued a red tornado warning for the areas on Monday afternoon, saying it's a "very dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation."
Meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado over Sherwood Lake, which was moving east at 75 km/h.
Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible, Environment Canada said.
"Take cover immediately in a basement, interior room, or a sturdy shelter when threatening weather approaches," the alert states. "If no shelter is available, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris. If you are out on the water when threatening weather approaches, return to shore and seek shelter, if possible. Otherwise, move away from the path of the tornado to escape. Wear your lifejacket, lie face down and protect your head."
Orange tornado watches have also been issued for the Sioux Narrows, Nestor Falls, Morson, Fort Frances, Emo, and Rainy River areas.
