Residents evacuated from homes during security alert
Residents have returned to their homes after a security alert in Lurgan.
A modified firework was found on James Street which could have caused significant damage or injury, police have said.
Police received a report at about 10:30 BST on Monday that a window had been smashed at a home and a suspicious object was found in the front garden by the resident.
The street, which was closed to traffic and pedestrians, has since been reopened.
Democratic Unionist Party councillor Peter Haire said the council had opened Lurgan Town Hall for those affected.
He described the situation as "very concerning and disruptive" for local school children, adding that this sort of activity was not wanted in the community.
Parents told local representatives they faced disruption as a result of the security alert.
Police said they understand the disruption caused as a result of the operation and have thanked the community for their patience.
They have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
