Swedish election too close to call

Sweden held a general election on Sunday, but the race is too close to call and the country may have to wait a little longer to see the results.

Local media report that more than 90 percent of the votes had been counted as of Monday.

They say it is a tight race. The center-left coalition, led by the Social Democratic Party, has a slight lead over the ruling center-right coalition.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson formed the center-right coalition government after the 2022 election.

He has been discussing immigration policies with the far-right Sweden Democrats. Media reports say the party has been promised cabinet roles if his coalition prevails.

The Sweden Democrats made a big leap to become the second-largest party in the last election.　But it is expected to lose seats this time, and fall into third place.

International media outlets are reporting that the move to let the anti-immigration party into power has backfired.

One voter said, "I am quite surprised because both sides of the coin have been really adamant with their points of view."

Another voter said: "What I hope for is unification. I want the different ethnicities to just sit and like each other instead of saying, you're an immigrant, you're Swedish. So, I want us in Sweden to come together as one. That's what I want."

The final results are expected later this week. Attention is now focused on whether Sweden will see new leadership for the first time in four years.
