Three Aussie startups that raised $465.6 million this week
This week was shaping up to be one of the quietest for funding we have seen so far this year. But a last-minute swing from Airwallex dramatically changed things.
While some may not classify Airwallex as a ‘startup’ this far into the company’s journey — until it’s publicly listed, we’re still going to count the win.
Airwallex has seen its valuation jump 37% after raising $460 million (US$320 million) in a Series H round.
The round was led by existing backer Addition, supported by Baillie Gifford, Hummingbird, QED Investors, T. Rowe Price, Hedosophia, Haun Ventures, Washington University in St. Louis and Amex Ventures, and values the Melbourne-founded fintech at $16 billion (US$11 billion).
The investment comes amid an ongoing investigation by the Australian government’s financial crimes regulator, AUSTRAC, over concerns that the now Singapore- and San Francisco-headquartered business failed to comply with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) laws.
Airwallex previously raised $498 million in a Series G round last December that valued the business at $12 billion (US$8 billion).
Local VCs Blackbird, Square Peg, and Airtree are among the company’s existing investors.
Health tech startup Ovum has raised $4 million in seed funding as it looks to expand its AI-powered women’s health platform. It is also looking to continue building what it describes as the first longitudinal dataset designed specifically around women’s health.
The round was led by Admiralty Capital Group and included participation from Antler, Giant Leap, Brisbane Angels and more. LaunchVic also increased its investment through the Alice Anderson Fund ahead of being folded into Innovation Victoria later this year.
The latest funding injection follows a $1.7 million pre-seed round in 2025 and has seen the company triple its valuation.
The funding will support team growth and the continued expansion of Ovum’s women’s health dataset, which the company says is central to its mission of addressing the gender health gap.
The startup was founded by Dr Ariella Heffernan-Marks in 2022 off the back of her own experiences navigating chronic migraines and feeling dismissed by healthcare professionals. Ovum aims to help women better understand their health, identify patterns over time, and advocate for themselves in clinical settings.
“I’ve sat on both sides of the desk, as a patient and as a doctor, and that’s why this mission matters so much to me,” Heffernan-Marks told SmartCompany.
“For too long, women have had to navigate healthcare systems that were not designed around their lived experiences or backed by sufficient female health data.”
Perth-based startup SavvyWise has also recently closed a new funding round, reports Business News Australia.
SavvyWise raised $1.56 million via equity crowdfunding platform OnMarket, with 469 investors backing the company.
The AI tax research platform says the new funding injection has pushed its market valuation to $27.5 million, which represents an almost threefold increase since the start of the year.
SavvyWise was founded by Drew Pflaum and Agastya Patel in 2025. The AI-driven platform is designed to help accountants navigate the Australian tax and compliance landscapes.
Earlier this year, in February, the startup raised more than $600,000 in seed funding at a valuation of $10 million, according to Accountants Daily.
