Trump Announces a National Force Dedicated to Artificial Intelligence
Donald Trump wants to strengthen the oversight of artificial intelligence in the United States. On Saturday, the American president announced on Truth Social the creation of an “AI Force” and the upcoming appointment of an AI czar. This announcement comes as debates on the regulation of advanced models intensify in Washington.
Trump wants to regulate AI without slowing the industry
The announcement comes after a particularly busy week on the regulation front. In mid-September, David Sacks notably accused OpenAI and Anthropic of wanting to establish a “cartel” under the guise of responsibility.
On September 18, Anthropic also chose Accenture as the first external evaluator of its advanced models, according to CNBC and TechCrunch. On the same day, California launched a task force responsible for studying, among other things, the possibility of a “kill switch” for certain AI systems.
Donald Trump has chosen a different approach. In his message published on Saturday, he assures that his administration will not seek to “hinder” or “stifle” the industry’s growth. On the contrary, he claims to want to support it while using existing criminal and civil laws to combat abuses.
The president also estimates that AI could represent up to 25% of the US GDP and desires a czar from “high IQ” profiles.
The question directly concerns the crypto sector. Until David Sacks’ departure, AI and digital assets were monitored within the same portfolio at the White House. His departure thus left the leadership position for these dossiers vacant.
If the future AI czar recovers part of these responsibilities, Washington could again reunite the two sectors under the same authority. This could be significant for projects at the intersection of blockchain and artificial intelligence.
For now, the markets do not seem to react strongly to the announcement. According to CoinGecko data recorded on September 20 at 15:14 UTC, the top fifteen AI-related tokens represent about 17 billion dollars in capitalization. NEAR shows a 60% increase over seven days, while TAO drops by 7% and Fetch.ai by 5.6% over 24 hours.
Trump has not yet specified the exact structure of the “AI Force,” its powers, or its implementation schedule. The New York Times notably highlights that it remains difficult to know if it will be a military structure, a civilian agency, or another body.
The choice of the future czar could therefore be decisive. A leader with real powers could help structure American AI policy. Conversely, the position could remain primarily political and symbolic.
For the crypto sector, two elements will be particularly monitored: the future AI leader and the evolution of the CLARITY Act in the Senate.
