Trump hails 'very productive' Xi meeting as Chinese leader ends US visit

WASHINGTON (TNND) — Chinese President Xi Jinping will wrap up his Washington visit Friday with a stop at the National Archives, home to the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights.

The visit concludes Xi’s three-day trip to the United States, where he and President Donald Trump discussed trade and artificial intelligence safety but announced no major breakthroughs.

Trump said Friday morning on Truth Social that he had a “very productive meeting with President Xi for both the U.S.A. and China.”

“Tremendous things will be happening. Like almost everyone else, he seemed to like calling the poorly and inaccurately named Artificial Intelligence to a far more accurate and important name, SUPER INTELLIGENCE,” Trump wrote.

Xi is set to begin Friday at the White House, where Trump and first lady Melania Trump will host the Chinese leader and his wife, Peng Liyuan, for tea before the National Archives visit.

The trip comes as the U.S. marks the 250th anniversary of its founding. Trump said Thursday he wanted to show Xi “some of the greatest treasures of that proud history,” including a wall-mounted copy of the Declaration of Independence he keeps in the Oval Office.

Trump also said he planned to show Xi artifacts highlighting the relationship between the two countries.

“Just as our ancestors reached across the ocean centuries ago to trade, to learn, and to build a better world, our two countries do really the same thing, and we’re very proud of it,” Trump said.

Trump held a black-tie state dinner Thursday night attended by technology leaders, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

Earlier in the day, Xi received a private White House tour that included a B-2 bomber flyover and a performance by the U.S. Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon. Melania Trump and Peng toured the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art.

The two leaders also met privately for 90 minutes Thursday, discussing the Middle East, Ukraine and the Korean Peninsula, according to the Chinese government's official readout. The White House has not released details of the talks.
