Universities in the age of artificial intelligence: We must change our approach to education.
These proposals are just the beginning. For a project to become a training activity, the school and the business must agree on who provides the equipment, who instructs the students, how the project results will be evaluated, and how they will be incorporated into the curriculum. Without answering these questions, a lab or collaborative agreement is unlikely to bridge the skills gap on its own.
Therefore, the challenge for universities in the AI era goes beyond simply adding more technology courses. Businesses need to clearly articulate the jobs and skills they require. Universities must translate these requirements into guided learning experiences, product development, and concrete assessment methods. When students gain hands-on experience in real-world work during their studies, the gap between the classroom and the workplace can be narrowed.
In his remarks addressing and resolving bottlenecks in the mechanism, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Le Quan affirmed that the current legal framework has opened up many favorable conditions for schools and businesses to proactively collaborate.
According to current university training regulations, universities have full authority to structure programs into training modules, allowing students to accumulate credits through collaborative projects with businesses. A research or experimental operation project lasting 6-7 months can be assessed and recognized as equivalent to 15-30 credits, or even replace an entire semester of regular study.
Regarding the proposal to introduce high-tech models such as autonomous vehicles and drones into schools, representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training support the establishment of testing models (sandboxes) within university campuses. While licensing high-altitude drone flights falls under the authority of the Ministry of Defense and is currently undergoing a sandbox mechanism, ground-based autonomous vehicles operating within campuses can be deployed soon through close cooperation agreements between universities and businesses.
