Wallaceburg hearing clinic brings new earwax removal technology to Canada

A Wallaceburg hearing clinic is introducing new technology that allows practitioners to see deeper into the ear canal while performing earwax removal.

All Ears, located at 204 Lafontaine St., recently received a WAXscope visualization system, making it one of the first clinics in Canada to offer the technology.

Owner Jana Kubisova completed specialized training in England before the equipment became available in Canada. She was trained by the developer of the system while it was being prepared for distribution in the Canadian market.

The WAXscope provides a detailed view inside the ear canal, allowing clinicians to perform earwax removal procedures with improved visibility.

Kubisova said her interest in the technology was inspired by watching British earwax removal specialist Neel Raithatha, known online as “The Wax Whisperer.”

“I have been watching Neel Raithatha remove wax for several years, and what I saw was that he could manage cases that I would not normally be able to manage,” she said.

She said the limitation was not a lack of knowledge, but rather the inability to clearly see deep inside the ear canal.

“In some cases I would have to stop and refer the patient to an ear, nose and throat specialist because I couldn’t adequately visualize the area I needed to work in. The main motivation is to ensure we can see better and help more people locally,” Kubisova said.

The enhanced visualization allows practitioners to better visualize areas deeper in the ear canal while performing wax removal.

Kubisova said the training and investment were driven by a desire to provide more advanced care close to home.

“There used to be people who would come in and have to come back two or three times,” she said. “Patients with psoriasis can have dead skin accumulate deep inside the ear canal, and those cases can be very difficult to manage.”

She said some patients require treatment every few months, and improved visualisation can help her manage some of those more challenging cases.

“The whole motivation is to be able to help people here rather than sending them out of town,” Kubisova said. Clearwax confirmed that All Ears is the first company in Canada using WAXscope specifically for wax removal after attending their UK training.
