Fireworks, music and markets can be expected at Kelowna’s Canada Day celebrations.

The festivities on July 1 will mark the 27th annual Canada Day Festival in the City of Kelowna.

Celebrations will take place across Waterfront Park, the Cultural District and Prospera Place. There will be free, family friendly activities for residents to partake in.

Several road closures and parking restrictions will be enacted for the event. For example, Water Street between Cawston Avenue and Sunset Drive will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Waterfront promenade closures will also begin on June 30 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. for the event set up.

The Dolphins parking lot will be closed from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

“Residents can reduce traffic and parking congestion by choosing various modes of active transportation, such as biking, walking and carpooling,” the City of Kelowna said in a release.

On July 1, the downtown bike valet on the corner of Mill Street and Bernard Avenue will be open longer, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The Canada Day festivities are expected to draw a large crowd.

Because of this, the public is being notified there will be an increased police presence across the city during the event.

The fireworks show may also be postponed or cancelled if conditions are deemed unsafe. Conditions such as drought, weather and wind will be closely monitored to assess wildfire risk.
