Why Quebec is seeing a surge in unclaimed bodies
While Montreal has the most unclaimed bodies, the total number in the province doubled from 448 in 2020 to 992 last year, according to Santé Quebéc. Quebec's death benefit is $2,500 — an amount many organizations say is insufficient to cover expenses, including funeral services and cemetery plots.
