Woman dead following stabbing at North York building: Toronto police

Suspect fled the scene prior to officer arrival, remains outstanding: Toronto police

Toronto police say a woman is dead after a stabbing in North York Saturday afternoon.

In a post to social media, the Toronto Police Service said officers were called to the area of Fairview Mall Drive and Don Mills Road for reports of a person with a knife in a residential building shortly after 2:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers located a woman inside the building who had been stabbed. In an update to social media, Toronto police said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toronto paramedics confirmed to CBC Toronto they attended the scene but did not transport anyone.

Speaking to reporters Saturday afternoon, Toronto police duty Insp. Dan Pravica said the woman was stabbed on one of the upper floors and was found in the hallway.

He said the woman appears to be in her late 20s or early 30s. However, Pravica said next of kin have not yet been notified and therefore, police will not be releasing her identity at this time.

Pravica said the suspect, who is a man, fled the scene prior to police arrival and remains outstanding. Toronto police are not releasing suspect's identity at this time.

"There is no immediate concern right now at this location for public safety," he said. "Who we believe is the suspect has left the building."

The homicide unit is taking over the investigation. Toronto police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
