Spain is heading to the World Cup final for the first time in 16 years, after defeating France 2-0 on Tuesday (July 14).
Spain’s Mikel Oyarzabal scored the first goal of the match from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute, and Pedro Porro added a second in the second half.
The last and only time Spain reached the World Cup championship match was in South Africa in 2010, when they defeated the Netherlands 1-0.
England and Argentina face off in the semi-finals today (July 15) in Atlanta at 12 p.m. PT.
England and Argentina have faced off on five previous occasions at the World Cup. England won three times: 1962, 1966 and 2002, and Argentina won in 1986 and on penalties in 1998.
“Argentina have scored two or more goals in their last 12 FIFA World Cup games, surpassing the previous mark set by Uruguay between 1930 and 1954. (England’s) Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham have both scored six goals at FIFA World Cup 2026; this is the first time that two players from the same nation have scored more than five goals in a single edition,” according to FIFA.
