Yellowknife puts fire ban in place over hot, dry conditions
Temperatures stayed at 30 C throughout the weekend
A fire ban is now in place in Yellowknife.
In a news release Monday afternoon, the city said the ban prohibits all open-air burning within city limits.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a heat warning for the city and surrounding area last week, which remains in affect.
Temperatures in Yellowknife hovered around 30 C on Monday.
The forecast calls for daytime highs between 29 and 32 degrees for the next five days, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
The ban does not apply to CSA-approved propane appliances used for cooking and heating, like camp stoves and barbecues.
Fire bans are also in place for several territorial parks, including Queen Elizabeth, Blackstone, Fort Simpson, Sambaa Deh and Hay River.
