Segou, 16 October, 2026 / 7:49 pm (ACI Africa).
The Catholic Diocese of Ségou in Mali has opened its 2026–2027 pastoral session with a reflection on artificial intelligence (AI) and human dignity, announcing plans to adopt a “Diocesan Charter for the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence” as one of the main outcomes of the gathering.
The opening ceremony took place on Thursday, 15 October, at the Gabriel-Cissé Centre in Ségou.
The October 14-17 session is being held under the general theme, “Christian Family and Synodality at the Service of Human Dignity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
In his opening address, Bishop Augustin Traoré recalled the context in which the pastoral session is taking place.
He said that by choosing as the specific theme “The Protection of the Human Person in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” the diocesan Church intends to bring a gaze of evangelical discernment to current technological changes and their consequences for society.
