'Engaging in politics of anarchy': BJP slams Rahul Gandhi over dharna at police station

As Congress leader sat on a dharna in front of the Parliament Street police station over pellet gun use complaint, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad slammed him and said he "engages in politics of anarchy" rather that democratic politics.

In a briefing, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "It is very unfortunate that Rahul Gandhi is the leader of the opposition, yet he engages not in democratic politics but in the politics of anarchy. Right now, he is sitting on a dharna on Parliament Street in Delhi without any prior notice... We both suspect and accuse that the Congress has gotten trapped in the stance it has taken on Vande Mataram..."

Rahul Gandhi on Friday reached the arrived at the DCP Office at the Parliament Street Police Station to reportedly seek information regarding the ongoing probe into the pellet guns allegedly used during the students protest at Jantar Mantar.

Gandhi accompanied a student, Sahil Lochav, who suffered a pellet injury on the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led march to demand former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. They first went to the Mandir Marg police station, and then to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Delhi, at Parliament Street.

As per the reports, Gandhi met with DCP Sachin Sharma and held a discussion over the issue. As the police refused to file an FIR on Sahil's complaint or share relevant information, the Congress leader sat on a dharna outside the DCP office.

"Today, I went to the DCP office at Parliament Street to file an FIR against the police brutality faced by Sahil Lochav. Such brutality against a peaceful protest is not just illegal—it's a serious crime. Neither has Home Minister Amit Shah offered any explanation to the students for this cruelty, nor has the Prime Minister apologized to them," Rahul Gandhi said in a post on X.

In another post, Gandhi said, "The only implication of not registering Sahil's FIR is this - in the rule of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, pellet guns can be openly fired at youth peacefully protesting, but they cannot get justice. Until the FIR is registered, until there is assurance of strict action against the guilty - we will stand firm."
