Here's what's open and closed in London this Labour Day

It’s the unofficial end of summer, but there are still plenty of ways to make the most of the long weekend.

Labour Day is Monday, and for many Londoners, it’s the last chance to squeeze a little more summer out of the long weekend.

Here’s what you need to know about what’s open and closed around the city.

The City of London is offering a range of free recreation activities on Monday, including swimming, arts and crafts, science workshops and basketball. Some activities require registration, while others are drop-in.

And unlike some years, Londoners still have several chances to get in an outdoor swim.

Byron, Southcrest and Silverwoods pools are open Monday, although they’re closing for the season that day. Gibbons and Stronach pools will remain open beyond the holiday.

Several wading pools will also have their final day on Labour Day, including Meredith, Silverwoods and Springbank parks.

The city’s spray pads are also open, generally from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., although the Ivey Park spray pad remains closed for the rest of the year.

If you’re looking for something beyond the pool, Storybook Gardens will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Admission is $10.70, with children under two admitted free.

Other attractions, including the London Children’s Museum at Kellogg Lane, East Park and Boler Mountain, are also open for the long weekend.

London Public Library branches will be closed Monday for Labour Day, although its digital library remains available.

If you’re planning to shop, check before you head out.

White Oaks Mall and CF Masonville Place will be closed Monday for Labour Day.

Individual stores, restaurants and grocery stores can set their own holiday hours, so it’s a good idea to check before making a trip.

Liquor and beer retailers may also have holiday closures or reduced hours.

London Transit will run on a holiday schedule Monday.

There are also several route and schedule changes taking effect Sunday, Sept. 6, so regular riders should check their route before heading out.

There will also be no regular Canada Post collection or delivery on Labour Day.

And if Monday is your usual garbage day, your collection will be pushed back one day to Tuesday, Sept. 8.
