Italian cinema takes centre stage in KL with six films over three weekends

For three weekends, fans of Italian films in the Klang Valley will be in for a treat as Italian Screens showcases six contemporary Italian films at GSC Mid Valley.

Presented and curated by the Embassy of Italy in Kuala Lumpur, the programme runs from Sept 26 to Oct 11.

At the event’s launch yesterday (Sept 23), the ambassador of Italy to Malaysia, Raffaele Langella said that bringing Italian cinema to Malaysian audiences is an important part of cultural engagement.

“Italian Screens offers a wonderful opportunity to share contemporary Italian stories through the universal language of cinema,” Langella said.

“This selection reflects the diversity and vitality of Italian cinema today, from stories rooted in family and community to films that explore social change, identity and human relationships,” he added.

The six films selected for this programme are as follows:

C’e Ancora Domani (There’s Still Tomorrow): In this 2023 period comedy-drama, a working-class wife and mother dreams of a better future. Shot in black-and-white, this award-winning film is directed by and stars Paola Cortellesi.

La Vita Da Grandi (Siblings): This heartwarming 2025 drama tells the story of Irene who hopes to care for her autistic brother Omar but he refuses to live with her. He wants independence, so Irene conducts an intensive adulting course to help prepare him.

Napoli-New York (Naples To New York): This 2024 dramedy follows two children whose journey from post-war Naples to New York becomes an unexpected story of courage, friendship and discovery.

Benvenuti In Campagna (Green Family): Released in April this year, this comedy tells the story of a family whose desperate escape to the countryside for a fresh start becomes a chaotic fight for survival when nature strikes back.

Il Bene Comune (The Greater Good): A tour guide and an actress lead four women nearing the end of their prison sentences on a hiking trip through the Pollino massif. The group finds that the journey becomes one of unexpected transformation in this 2026 film.

Diamanti (Diamonds): This 2024 film follows sisters Alberta and Gabriella and the women who work at their cinema costume company in Rome.

All films will be screened at GSC Mid Valley every Saturday and Sunday, with two titles screened each day. All films will be screened in Italian with English subtitles.

Tickets are now available at a flat rate of RM15 each via GSC e-payment services on the GSC website, GSC Mobile App or GSC Mid Valley kiosks.
