Japan's Prince Hisahito turns 20

Japan's Prince Hisahito, the eldest son of Crown Prince and Princess Akishino, turned 20 years old on Sunday.

The Imperial Household Agency says the Prince is in his sophomore year at the University of Tsukuba, and spent the past year in good health.

He is mainly studying biology and learning more specialized fields through lectures and experiments. He is also working on compulsory subjects such as English, which is necessary to read research papers, as well as physical education.

Prince Hisahito has also been taking part in more activities as a member of the Imperial family while giving priority to his studies.

In January, the Prince attended the annual New Year's poetry reading for the first time. He wrote a poem about the joy of closely observing dragonflies, which he has been interested in since childhood.

In May, he attended an Imperial banquet for the first time to welcome the Philippine President and his wife, who were visiting Japan as state guests.

The Prince also took part in one of the country's largest training camps for boy scouts held in Hiroshima Prefecture in August, where he gave his first speech.
