Man, 29, dead after being struck by pickup truck in Downsview Park parking lot: police

Toronto police say a man is dead after being struck by a pickup truck in a Downsview Park parking lot Friday.

In a news release Sunday, the Toronto Police Service said a 57-year-old man was driving a 2024 black Dodge Ram pickup truck in a grass parking lot at the park shortly after 11:30 p.m., following a concert.

A 29-year-old man was lying on the grass when the pickup truck struck him, according to Toronto police.

The man was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition but succumbed to his injuries Sunday, Toronto police said in the news release. The driver remained at the scene.

Toronto paramedics confirmed to CBC Toronto a person was transported to a local trauma centre with serious injuries.

In a news release Saturday, Toronto police said officers were called to a personal injury collision in the area of Sheppard Avenue W. and Tuscan Gate.

Traffic services is investigating the incident. This is the first private property fatality of 2026, according to Sunday's news release.

Toronto police spokesperson Viktor Sarudi told CBC Toronto the distinction is made to separate incidents that occur in private areas, such as parking lots, garages and driveways, as opposed to public roadways or highways.
