Man dies after sailboat capsizes in Detroit River near Amherstburg

Police say two Michigan men were sailing when their boat capsized Monday

A Michigan man has died after drowning in Amherstburg.

"Two Michigan men were sailing when their boat capsized,” Windsor police told CBC in an email Wednesday morning.

“A passing vessel noticed the men in the water and began assisting.”

When the Coast Guard arrived on scene, police said one of the men had gone underwater.

Both men were removed from the water and taken to hospital but one was pronounced dead, police said.

The incident occurred during National Drowning Prevention Week in Canada.
