MIB asks movie ticketing platforms to display accessibility features before booking

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has advised online movie ticketing platforms and ticket aggregators to display accessibility features available for films before users book their tickets, following directions from the Delhi High Court.

In an advisory dated July 9, the ministry asked platforms to introduce an independent mechanism on their websites and mobile applications that enables users, particularly persons with disabilities, to check whether a film offers accessibility features before completing a booking.

The move follows the Delhi High Court’s order dated February 19, 2026, concerning accessibility in cinema exhibition for persons with disabilities.

According to the advisory, the booking interface should prominently display the availability of features such as Audio Description (AD), Closed Captions (CC) or Same Language Captioning (SLC), Indian Sign Language (ISL), and any other accessibility feature available for a film.

Where these features are provided through an external application or digital platform, ticketing platforms have also been asked to mention the name of the app or platform through which viewers can access them.

“The above information should be displayed in a clear, accurate and easily identifiable manner on the booking interface so that persons with disabilities are able to make an informed choice prior to booking tickets,” the ministry said.

The ministry has advised online ticketing platforms and aggregators to implement the mechanism within seven days of the advisory. The move, it said, is aimed at enhancing accessibility and promoting ease of access for persons with disabilities.
