Naver Pay Launches Venture Capital Investment Platform to Connect Startup Investments
'Npay Startup,' a venture capital investment platform that connects startups and venture companies with investors, has officially launched.
On July 7, Naver Pay (Npay) announced that it held an inaugural ceremony for the 'Venture Capital Investment Platform' at Naver 1784 in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, together with the Financial Supervisory Service, and key figures from the finance and venture industries.
The event was attended by Lee Chanjin, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, Npay CEO Park Sangjin, as well as the chairpersons of the Korea Financial Investment Association, Credit Finance Association, Korea Venture Capital Association, and Korea Venture Business Association. In addition, representatives from securities firms, new technology business finance companies, venture capital (VC) firms, and CEOs of venture companies also participated.
The venture capital investment platform is a project jointly promoted by the Financial Supervisory Service, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and Npay, aiming to connect the main players in the venture capital market—limited partners, general partners, and startups/venture companies—within a single platform. This initiative seeks to address the difficulties in sourcing promising investments and the inefficiencies present during investment review and fundraising processes. Through this platform, each participant can access all necessary investment information in one place, while a standardized investment process is expected to enhance the efficiency of investment discovery and matching.
On this day, Npay unveiled the venture capital investment platform 'Npay Startup' and demonstrated the service. 'Npay Startup' provides differentiated services and functions for each participant—limited partners, general partners, and startups/venture companies. The platform is being built and operated in collaboration with 'CodeBox,' which has increased accessibility to the venture capital market by standardizing startup investment information and establishing investor touchpoints.
'Npay Startup' will undergo a pilot operation for about three months and continue to be upgraded. Naver Pay explained that, in order to enhance the reliability of information on the platform, they will cooperate with relevant institutions to review data integrity verification systems and will actively incorporate user feedback during the pilot phase, as well as encourage more institutions to participate.
Lee Chanjin, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, stated, "I hope the venture capital investment platform will become a core infrastructure connecting innovative companies and investors, thereby revitalizing productive finance. I expect that market participants such as securities firms, asset management companies, startups, and venture companies will actively utilize the platform so that the venture capital market can become even more dynamic."
Npay CEO Park Sangjin said, "Naver, too, was able to grow from a venture company to what it is today because there were investors who believed in the company's innovation and potential. Through 'Npay Startup,' which serves as a catalyst connecting innovative companies and investors, we will actively support the creation of many future success stories."
