Activist Sonam Wangchuk’s indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar has entered its 17th day, raising serious concerns over his deteriorating health. Wangchuk, who joined the Cockroach Janta Party protest on June 28, has reportedly lost over 8 kilograms, with declining glucose levels and signs of muscle loss. Updates shared by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke indicate that the activist is in immense pain, prompting alarm among supporters and well-wishers.As his condition weakens, political leaders across party lines have appealed to Wangchuk to call off his fast and prioritise his health. TMC leader Mahua Moitra urged him to end the hunger strike, stating that his life holds greater value and the fight for justice can continue without risking his well-being. Former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and former Delhi CM Atishi also expressed solidarity with the agitation.Support has also come from civil society, with eminent personalities including Arundhati Roy, Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah and Jayati Ghosh issuing a joint statement. While backing the protest, they have stressed that the struggle ahead requires sustained leadership and urged Wangchuk to conserve his strength. Actors Zeenat Aman and Omi Vaidya have also voiced concern, calling for dialogue and expressing support for the cause.
