Nigerian product designer helping startups turn ideas into successful mobile, web applications

Every successful digital product begins with an idea, but transforming that idea into a mobile or web application that people genuinely enjoy using is a challenge many startups fail to overcome.

For Nigerian product designer and digital product strategist, Babatunde Yusuf, professionally known as Bafreka, solving that challenge has become both a career and a mission.

Over the last few years, Babatunde has worked with startup founders, technology companies, and growing businesses to design digital products that combine intuitive user experiences with clear business objectives. His work focuses on helping companies launch products users can easily understand, adopt, and continue using.

Since launching his professional career in Product Design in 2021, Babatunde has contributed to the design of more than 15 mobile and web applications across industries including fintech, logistics, cybersecurity, mobility, education, SaaS, and digital commerce. His portfolio includes collaborations with businesses in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States, South Africa, and India.

Some of the products he has contributed to include Ubyflow, FinQard, Payropp, Developify, Cyber Ex, GetConct, Pgold App, Cabz Ride UK, Ubiti, Puxpay, Payv3rse App, Munii App, Wepay App, CardAll, Ricki App, Paymita, and Whoosh App.

Although several of these products are publicly available, others remain under development or in pre-launch phases, reflecting the realities of startup funding, product validation, and evolving business strategies. For Babatunde, every engagement follows the same principle: understanding users before designing solutions.

His journey into Product Design began from an unexpected place.

Originally trained as a Graphic Designer, he spent two years helping businesses create logos, brand identities, and marketing materials. While many of those brands looked visually appealing, he noticed that their digital products often struggled with usability, navigation, and customer engagement.

Rather than stopping at aesthetics, Babatunde decided to specialize in Product Design (UI/UX), enabling him to solve larger business challenges through user research, interaction design, and digital product strategy.

Today, his design process extends beyond screens and colors. He works closely with founders and development teams to define product structure, simplify user journeys, improve customer experiences, and design applications that support long-term business growth.

Based in Lagos, Babatunde holds a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Information Technology. His engineering background continues to influence his systematic approach to product thinking, allowing him to combine technical reasoning with creativity to solve complex design problems.

His areas of specialization include Mobile Application Design, Web Application Design, Product Design (UI/UX), User Research, Design Systems, Brand Identity Design, Digital Product Strategy, and No-Code Product Development.

Beyond client work, Babatunde actively documents his design process, shares practical insights with aspiring designers, and continues building a growing professional community of more than 11,000 LinkedIn followers. His contributions to multiple fintech and technology products have positioned him among a new generation of Nigerian designers working on products that reach users across international markets.

Looking ahead, Babatunde plans to expand BAFREKA into a globally recognized product design brand, collaborating with ambitious founders, startups, and established companies seeking to build high-quality digital products.

For businesses planning to build a new mobile application, redesign an existing platform, or launch a scalable web product, Babatunde believes great design is more than appearance—it is a strategic investment that directly influences customer satisfaction, product adoption, and long-term business success.

As Nigeria’s technology ecosystem continues to gain global recognition, professionals like Babatunde Yusuf are demonstrating that some of tomorrow’s most impactful digital products can be conceived, designed, and refined from Africa for users around the world.
