OLA Latino Film Festival unreels in the Hamptons

The 23rd annual Latino Film Festival of the Hamptons kicks off Thursday with a lineup ofd three features dedicated to themes of migration, belonging and resilience.

Coinciding with National Hispanic Heritage Month, the festival runs through Sunday at venues around the East End.

The festival opens with "Moscas," a comedy-drama about an isolated woman (Teresita Sánchez) who rents out part of her Mexico City apartment to a man whose young son forms an unexpected bond with her. A reception at 6:30 p.m. precedes the 7:00 screening at Southampton Playhouse.

"Island of Dreams," a documentary about Cubans weighing the difficult decision to leave their country in search of a better life, will screen at Sag Harbor Cinema Saturday at 8 p.m., along with the short film "Truncated Souls."

The closing title, "Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado" (2 p.m. Sunday) is a made-for-streaming installment of the "Dora the Explorer" franchise, in which an adventurous girl (Samantha Lorraine) goes searching for a fallen magical star. The film will be playing at North Fork Arts Center in Greenport.

The festival is presented by OLA of Eastern Long Island, a nonprofit that advocates for Latino immigrants in the region. Tickets are $10-$15. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to olaofeasternlongisland.org.
