Sarnia runner representing Canada at World U20 Championships

Sarnia's Chase Capes has been named to Team Canada for the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships.

The event will take place from August 5 to 9 at the legendary Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

The venue is often referred to as the “Cathedral of Track and Field.”

The St. Patrick's High School student will compete in the 1,500 metre race as the reigning Canadian U20 Champion. He won the June event with a time of 3:49.60.

This is also the second time this year Capes will represent Canada after competing at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in January.

He placed 37th overall in the U20 men's race, with a time of 26:03.

The Sarnia Athletics Southwest Track & Field Club is selling lawn signs (for a minimum $40 donation) to decorate the community and show support for Capes.

Proceeds will support the club and the dedicated volunteer coaches.
