As AI Labs Build a Safety Standards Body, Existing Legal Frameworks and Prior Groups’ Mistakes Should be Instructive
Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic are reportedly moving to create the Standards Authority for Frontier AI (SAFA), an industry-led body that would support third-party testing of models before deployment and set rules for reporting safety and security incidents. A joint working group has met regularly since July, and the organization could launch as early as 2027. Who else may participate has not been decided.
