Cologne-based Metycle secures €129 million credit facility to scale secondary copper and aluminium supply
Metycle, a Cologne-based supplier of secondary copper and aluminium, has secured a €131.7 million ($150 million) credit facility.
The credit facility was provided by Rivonia Road Capital, a California-headquartered private capital manager specialising in asset-backed lending. The credit facility comes after the company raised €14 million in Series A funding in February 2025. In December 2023, it announced the closure of its €4.7 million Seed funding round.
Daniel Zinn, co-founder and Managing Partner of Rivonia Road Capital, said, “We are proud to support Metycle’s next phase of growth. The company has built a differentiated platform that brings greater transparency, reliability and efficiency to the global recycled metals market, while helping meet growing demand for sustainable raw materials.
“We have been particularly impressed by the management team’s deep industry expertise, disciplined execution and clear vision for scaling the business.
Alongside Rivonia Road Capital, Metycle’s investors and financing partners include 2150, which led its Series A round, Project A, Partech, Market One Capital, Dutch Founders Fund, Crédit Agricole Leasing & Factoring, and SCCF.
Founded in 2022 by Rafael Suchan and Sebastian Brenner, Metycle is a vertically integrated secondary metals company that buys, upgrades and supplies copper, aluminium and other non-ferrous metals to industrial customers globally. The company says it has traded more than €103 million ($120 million) worth of secondary metals over the past 12 months, a growth of 150% versus the prior year, with a team present in 15 countries.
Its business is built on three pillars: a global trading operation that manages sourcing, contracts and risk; SmartSorting Hubs that use AI-enabled sorting, mechanical separation and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy to convert mixed scrap into feedstock matched to buyer specifications; and TrustTrack, a digital layer that links records on material origin, quality, processing and logistics to each batch and trade. Metycle’s first SmartSorting Hub is located in Maasmechelen, Belgium.
Metycle argues that demand for secondary metals is not the constraint holding back the market, but predictability is. It points to the central role of copper and aluminium in electrification, power grids, data centre infrastructure and manufacturing, arguing that reliable secondary supply can enable material security while primary mine supply takes years to develop.
Despite its significance, the secondary metals market remains fragmented, with inconsistent specifications and documentation that make transactions hard to standardise, verify, and finance at scale, a gap it is trying to address with a combination of trading, physical processing, and digital verification.
“Our opportunity is to make secondary supply behave more like an industrial raw material: specified, traceable, and reliably delivered. This facility gives us the capacity to finance substantially more material through that system and serve customers at a much greater scale,” said Suchan, co-founder and CEO, Metycle.
The company says the facility will enable it to finance larger physical metal transactions, move greater volumes of recycled feedstock, and expand its supply to industrial buyers and smelters worldwide. The credit facility also gives it a repeatable framework to speed up execution for suppliers while delivering larger and more consistent flows of specified secondary feedstock to its industrial customers.
