Tech School Boosts STEM Learning For Brimbank

Local secondary students will have access to robot dogs, a humanoid robot named Jetson, and cutting-edge virtual reality equipment at the brand new Brimbank Tech School at Victoria University's (VU) Sunshine Campus.

Funded by the Victorian Government, the $13.26 million Brimbank Tech School was officially opened today by the Premier the Hon Ben Carroll MP and Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, the Hon Gabrielle Williams MP.

The school will provide free and immersive science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning experiences for more than 13,000 secondary students from 15 partner schools.

Victoria University (VU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker, who joined the Premier and Deputy Premier and Minister for Education at the ribbon-cutting, said VU was proud to host the Tech School, connecting high school students to the future of work.

Our creative programs are about building pathways, growing confidence and helping young people see what's possible" Professor Shoemaker said.

Students will receive free transportation to and from the Tech School to learn how to solve real-world challenges using industry-standard technology such as robotics, battery storage systems, drones and virtual reality equipment.

Brimbank Tech School Director Stephen Manitta said it was a thrill to see the physical building take shape over the past 12 months, but the real fun will start as school groups start coming through the doors.

We are exploring new ways to spark curiosity, conversation and learning. We want to inspire students to use technology to support them to grow, solve challenges and respond to community needs," Mr Manitta said.
